What you need to know about international travel and COVID-19

As the world begins to open up and we all have the travel bug, it's important to stay informed and prepared anywhere you go. Add these questions to your packing list so you can enjoy a stress-free trip.

What is your vaccination status?

The CDC highly recommends holding off on international travel until you are fully vaccinated, which is two weeks after your last dose. However, if you are not vaccinated and absolutely have to travel, follow the CDC's guidelines for unvaccinated people. Below is a chart of recommendations and requirements for all international travelers to reference so you can fly stress-free. To learn more about travel recommendations for both vaccinated and unvaccinated people click here.

What country are you traveling to?

It's important to not spread the virus, but equally important not to catch the virus. There are varying risk levels in every country from low, moderate, high, and very high COVID-19 cases. The CDC recommends being fully vaccinated before traveling anywhere, but for unvaccinated individuals to avoid non-essential travel to any moderate-risk+ countries. Some countries with low-risk to consider booking trips to are New Zealand, Turks and Caicos, French Polynesia, and Bermuda. Some countries with very high-risk to avoid traveling to are Brazil, the Netherlands, Costa Rica, Fiji, and the Maldives. To see the full list of countries and their risk level, click here.

Do you need a negative COVID-19 test before traveling internationally?

Required negative test results and documentation vary depending on where you're traveling from and where you're traveling to. As a rule of thumb, most countries will require proof of a negative COVID test within 72 hours of departure. Travel prepared by entering your vaccination status, departure country, arrival country, and date of travel here. Your unique travel requirements will appear so you can have a stress-free trip. Remember, no matter where you're traveling, you will be required to wear a mask.

What does the United States require from citizens re-entering the country?

Getting to your destination is only half the battle.
