Getting to Work During a Pandemic | Workest
As businesses begin to reopen in states across the country - and others are speculating about what their reopening processes might look like - a new pandemic-related issue has arised. How will people get to work safely as we venture into the early stages of a new "normal"?
In the past few months, most employees have stopped commuting to work due to remote work in response to the coronoavirus pandemic. As economies start to reopen and employees begin to go back to the office, steps must be taken in order to ensure safety while commuting to work. According to a recent JLL study, 29% of respondents who took public transportation prior to the pandemic are looking for alternative forms of transportation to and from work in the future. One step employers are taking is to offer Transportation Spending Accounts in order to allow employees to put pre-tax funds towards commuting expenses in the form of parking or transportation. These programs are a low-cost option for businesses to offset transportation costs for employees, and could become a timely solution to Covid-19 transportation worries. Another effective tactic could be for employers to extend work-from-home practices for employees who are concerned about how to get to work. Especially if remote work has been effective for your employees, what is the harm in letting them continue until they feel more safe?
