While it is still unclear what impact this will have on the pandemic, some worry that this shift may result in less transparency, and more skepticism of the data from the public. Former CDC acting director Dr. Richard Besser called the rerouting a “step backwards” for the country’s coronavirus response, citing a worry that the data could “be further politicized.”
