Trump Administration Selects Five Coronavirus Vaccine Candidates as Finalists

The White House is eager to project progress, but the public-private partnership it has created still faces scientific hurdles, internal tensions and questions from Congress.

The Department of Health and Human Services has confirmed that hospital data on coronavirus patients will not be rerouted to the Trump administration instead of first being sent to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. While it is still unclear what impact this will have on the pandemic, some worry that this shift may result in less transparency, and more skepticism of the data from the public. Former CDC acting director Dr. Richard Besser called the rerouting a “step backwards” for the country’s coronavirus response, citing a worry that the data could “be further politicized.”
