Oxford Group Leads Race for Coronavirus Vaccine

In Race for a Coronavirus Vaccine, an Oxford Group Leaps Ahead

As scientists at the Jenner Institute prepare for mass clinical trials, new tests show their vaccine to be effective in monkeys. OXFORD, England - In the worldwide race for a vaccine to stop the coronavirus, the laboratory sprinting fastest is at Oxford University.

Scientists at Oxford University’s Jenner Institute are leading the charge towards a coronavirus vaccine. Having proved in previous trials that similar inoculations were harmless to humans, these scientists were able to leap ahead and schedule tests for their new vaccine. These tests will involve more than 6,000 by the end of the month, and hope to prove both safe and effective. If the test proves to be effective, and the scientists gain emergency approval, the first few million doses of the vaccine could be available by September, which is far before any other announced efforts. As the institute begins its Phase 1 trial, it hopes to be the first vaccine to the market as soon as this fall.
